Happy Census Day!

April 1st is more than just April Fool’s Day this year thanks to the decennial Census. Today is also Census Day, a handy reminder to mail back your Census forms. Why should you care about the Census? I could go on and on: from the $400 billion allocated locally every year based on Census data to the Constitutionally mandated reapportionment of the House of Representatives and more! So what are you waiting for?

Want to know more about how South Asians should fill out Question 9 (the race question), check out this SAALT factsheet (also available in Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi, Nepali, Punjabi, Tamil and Urdu)

Haven’t received your form? Visit your local Be Counted/Questionnaire Assistance Center site to fill out a blank Census forms. Find your local sites here (be sure to choose the “Find a Questionnaire Assistance Center option). After April 11th, you can fill out your Census form over the phone using the Telephone Questionnaire Assistance system which has English, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Vietnamese and TDD lines.

Also, my new favorite Census-related pastime, looking at local response rates around the country (choose the “View Participation Rates” option).
